Madman Designs started out as a gift-making operation for me to build unique gifts for my family and friends for Christmas and weddings and such. I was blessed by my parents and was brought up in an artistic environment. My dad ran a machine shop right out of our house, so I grew up around manufacturing as well. I started machining at age 18 with my dad, and then attended the Machine Tool Technology program at WITC (Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College) in New Richmond, WI.
With my job at a machine shop and a very kind boss/owner, I was able to use the equipment there for gift making. The salesman at my day job always called me Madman, hence the name. I’ve also been busy building one-of-a-kind items for several local restaurants and businesses, mostly using my dad’s machine shop for that. I had made some signs as gifts, and they seemed to be pretty popular, so Madman Designs was born.
In the summer of 2011, I bought a CNC milling machine and built a shop in my back yard to put it in. Specializing in building machined aluminum signs, I kicked off the completion of my new shop by making some very cool canoe paddle shaped signs for the Village of Balsam Lake, WI and their local businesses. Since then, the shop has grown to include prototype and short-run machining, as well as design assistance.
Adding to the offerings, with the goal of making life easier, the Gen-3 Apple TV remote case was born. With the introduction of the Gen-4 Apple TV box, a new case, which is much more innovative, was designed and carefully “focus-grouped”, to make it the absolute best it could be, through 5 different iterations.
With several other exclusive products in the works, Madman Designs will continue to move forward for many years to come!
